ABOUT BEAR + BUG
Once upon a time...
There was a Bear who loved to explore. Fearless and curious, she climbed trees, splashed through streams, and chased butterflies through meadows. But one day, Bear got separated from her mother, and suddenly the whole world felt bigger and darker.
She sat alone under her favorite tree, trying to be brave but feeling very small. She remembered Mama's last words: "I will find you. Be brave. I love you with all my heart."
Bear grew so hungry waiting for Mama Bear to find her, and that is when she stumbled upon HOPE!
“Hope” just happened to be a 3.33 inch praying mantis, named “Bug”, who whispered… “ I know… I understand… you’re not alone”.
Bug’s wise, grounded, intentional nature seemed to be all Bear needed to feel brave enough to journey forward. Together… they were determined to find Mama!
From that moment, they were inseparable. Bear teaches Bug about courage. Bug teaches Bear about presence. Together, they learned that the bravest thing you can do is let someone walk beside you while you search.
And that's where our story begins.
THE TRUTH BEHIND THE TALE
Bear and Bug aren't just characters. They're real. They're mine.
Bear is my daughter—fearless, curious, exactly as wild and wonderful as her namesake. Bug is my son—thoughtful, wise, the steady presence who knows when to speak and when to simply be.
And their story? It's my story too.
I recently lost my mother, and I have learned, just like Bear, that healing doesn't happen alone. It happens in the quiet moments of presence. In the stories we tell, memories we treasure, and legacies we pass down.
Bear + Bug is my love letter to my past, present, and future.
To my past: Mom, Dad, Grandpa Ivan, (who are no longer with us). To the moments that mattered. To the love that endures…
To my very present: My husband, my very own Bear + Bug, the 6 T's (my siblings), my cousins, many nieces and nephews, and to my best and greatest friends since I was 5: "The Get-Along Gang" (you know who you are). To the moments we're creating together. To building something that will last for generations to come…
And to my future: My legacy... to my future grandchildren, great-grandchildren and for generations to come. To all the moments we treasure and carry forward.
WHAT WE CREATE
Every pattern, every story, every design is an invitation to remember. To honor. To pass something down.
From toile-style storytelling patterns to children's books that hold space for grief and joy alike, Bear + Bug creates heirlooms—the kind you wrap your babies in, the kind you read until the pages soften, the kind that become part of your family's story too.
Because legacy isn't just what we leave behind. It's what we share while we're here.
But last and certainly not least, Bear + Bug is my love letter ... to You!
My hope and prayer is that although these are my stories, I hope they will inspire you to share yours.
After all... stories are our legacy, and if you tell me your stories, I will tell you mine!
